Glorfindel With Battle Hair by alystraea Glorfindel With Battle Hair by alystraea
Suddenly, even though I always think of Glorfindel with his hair loose and flowing, I wanted to paint him in the Third Age with a messy updo for battle.

Absolutely amazing art!
and I love the concept of battle hair.
because as pretty as the long manes are... it's sooo impractical! Believe me, I tried *laughing*

Really? But the long manes do look gorgeous, I must say! Three cheers for practicality!

It definitely depends on the lenght or the weapon ;)  legolas little said braids work well for him as an Archer. in close combat they could get in the way a bit
but of course it would love less majestic if all the elven warriors worse long braids. Especially for the wood elves in the hobbit. I consider magic as an explanation why they didn't end up tangled in trees and bushes ;)hope I don't sound like a terrible know-it-all...

LOL! magic is definitely the explanation - or elven hair unlike our mortal hair is so silky-smooth it just cannot get entangled.
I agree with you that it's plain common sense. And since you've done cosplays, you must have run through woods in costume with long hair, and so your real life experience gives you the right to talk! :D (Big Grin)

*laughing* well... maybe they have special shampoo in Mirkwood that makes everything so smooth you never get stuck ;)
or elves have the fanciest "simple" braids and outdo themselves in styling their hair for battle?

With elves, everything is special!! I wouldn't be surprised about the super-magical-formula shampoo too Wink/Razz or the gorgeously-fancy battle hairstyles. That's why we love elves!!

This looks quite stunning, not only his hair-do - which definetly seems more practical for battle, but also the design of the armour, the different layers and the little details. I actually like that you did not use the flower as his symbol everywhere but only in a few prominent spots. Great work!

Thank you! This being the Third Age, I felt he would only retain one or two little reminders of the House of the Golden Flower. I meant to make this a quick sketch and be rough with the armour, but once I started I couldn't stop... so I'm glad you like the details.

He learnt in a very horrible way that loose hair is gonna lead to death!
